Why CF3 is great! You no longer have to choose between the convenience of a spray lube and Green Oil! The CF3 comes empty. It can then be filled with Green Oil chain lube, White (our super dry chain wax) or Clean Chain degreaser (30ml water and 70ml Clean Chain). Spray degreasers and lubricants are popular mainly due to the convenience - simply aim and spray. There are however environmental and health problems with this. Whilst the CF3 is CFC free, the montreal protocol virtually banned the production of CFCs years ago - a victory for Greenpeace, and the ozone layer. However, whilst 'green washing' companies out there shout about being 'CFC free!', isobutane and other propellants are used instead, which can be harmful to the environment, and your health, nullifying the 'CFC free therefore green' statement. Bicycle spray lubes often contain petrochemicals, PTFE and other nasties, the CFC issue being a red herring today. Many sprays even have the 'dangerous for the environment' logo alongside health warnings about their vapour.
The CF3 is been on Green Oil UK's agenda and has been in development for some time. Bike hire venues, mechanics who suffer breathing problems from working with other toxic brands, and individuals who enjoy spray lubing have been asking for a way to use Green Oil, but with the convenience of a spray can. Before it was one or the other. Now, you can use Green Oil, and a spray can, without damaging the environment, with a the CF3. How does it work? The technology is based on air pressure. Standard spray products use a gas, for example isobutane that can be compressed heavily into a liquid or near liquid state. This high pressure allows the oily content to be pushed out at the press of a button. The CF3 achieves the same thing, but instead of isobutane, or any other dodgy gas, it uses fresh air... The specially designed mechanism stores air inside the CF3 chamber. The CF3 cover cap should then be pumped up and down repeatedly. Just ten times does the trick. Then, the spray button works to powerfully spray the lube inside onto your chain or other device. The CF3 can be filled with Green Oil chain lube, White, or even Clean Chain degreaser. It can be re-filled again and again. Unlike other spray bottles that can only be used once, then often can't be recycled (they are often made of several metals and plastics), the CF3 can be re-filled time and time again. Re-use is always better than recycling - for your riding environment, and your wallet.
Other interesting facts - The CF3 can be sent through the post and on planes - unlike other aerosols. How to use your CF3 With Green Oil White (super dry chain wax): 1. The CF3 re-usable lube spray is supplied empty. Remove the cover cap, and unscrew the spray unit. Carefully pour in the White from its bottle. 3. Pump it up and down ten times to create air pressure. 5. Hold the bottle, and push down the button to spray White onto your chain or other part. Spray on for one cycle of the chain, or as you desire. Be careful to avoid your brake pads, disks and wheel rim of course - spraying lube onto brake surfaces will impair the bike's braking ability, and may result in death. And then you may have to buy a new bike too!
Directions: With Green Oil chain lube: 1. The CF3 is supplied empty. Remove the cover cap, and unscrew the spray unit. Carefully pour in 100ml of Green Oil in. 3. Pump it up and down ten times to create air pressure inside the unit. 5. Hold the bottle, and push down the button to spray Green Oil onto your chain or other bike parts. Spray over the whole length of the chain. Turn the chain through two cycles, then wipe off any excess if necessary (you want lube between the links mainly). Don't get oil on your rims, disk brakes or brake pads, as you may not be able to stop, resulting in an injury. And if you film it, a classic You've Been Framed clip. If you do get oil on a brake surface, clean it with Clean Chain and a CF3 as follows.... Directions: With Clean Chain degreaser 1. The CF3 is supplied empty. Remove the cover cap, and unscrew the spray unit. Carefully pour in 70ml of Clean Chain, and 30ml water. (Clean Chain is a gel, which doesn't spray so well. 30ml water loosens it up to enable CF3 to turn it into a degreasing foam.) 3. Shake up and down 4. Pump the cover cap up and down ten times to create air pressure inside the unit. 6. Hold the bottle, and push down the button to spray the degreasing foam onto your chain or other bike parts. It works well for sprocket cleaning and other parts too. Always rinse off thoroughly with clean water. Thanks for reading this. If your local bike shop doesn't stock Green Oil yet, simply ask them and they probably will.
