Product history

The EcoSponge is to our knowledge the world’s first fair trade bike product. Supporting farmers in the Philippines, EcoSponge is a fantastic durable plant based fibre sponge specifically for bike cleaning.

EcoSponge, fair trade bike cleaning sponge

Farmed from the Luffa plant in the Philippines, the EcoSponge is completely biodegradable after its life of bike cleaning. The wide fibres mean that mud can be easily rinsed out.

The EcoSponge is also shaped to get into hard to reach areas, and excellent for frame cleaning, even safe to use on Carbon Fibre.

EcoSponges grown in the Philapines...........EcoSponges grown encouraging biodiversity

Farming the plants which grow the EcoSponge fibres provides employment and money for hard times. The farmers get double the average wage, in order to invest in their future. The plant is indigenous to The Philippines, supports bio diversity (being grown amongst other plants even), and reduces pollution.

The EcoSponge expands in water, and is great for cleaning your whole bike, excluding the chain and sprockets. Tough, yet safe even for carbon fibre and anodized parts.

Compostable

Petrochemical sponges cannot be recycled after their cleaning life. Nor are they biodegradable.

The EcoSponge is biodegradable. After a year or more of use, you can simply put it in your compost bin. If you do not own a compost bin, bury it in your garden or a park.

Product reviews

The EcoSponge is a very new product, so there are only a couple of reviews out currently.

Directions for use:

1. Soak EcoSponge in water. It will expand for its first use.

2. Preferably using Green Clean, clean mud, grime etc off your bike.

3. Rinse EcoSponge. Use rain water from a water butt if possible.

4. Hang up to dry – this helps the EcoSponge last longer.
