Unlike in countries with more responsible governments, in the UK there is little or no incentive for companies to take their rubbish back. Re-cycling is only the second best option to re-using packaging. Re-cycling still uses energy.
Below is a restored British bottle deposit box. It was in a skip. Unlike for example in Austria, bottling companies rarely take bottles back in the UK today.
Green Oil UK Limited is different...

The Green Oil bottle deposit scheme
Preserving the world's resources and using less energy is important, for us, other people, and the next generation. By returning your bottle to Green Oil UK Limited, you will save more oil from being extracted to form the bottle (plastic is made out of oil). Moreover, you will save more carbon dioxide from being emitted to create a new bottle.
It is even better than recycling to re-use plastic bottles, as no energy is needed to shred it and melt it. After re-filling the bottle for you, we will use environmentally friendly wax to reseal the bottle.
For returning your Green Oil bottle you get a wholesome 20 pence.
Take your Green Oil bottle to the friendly bike shop it came from and they will either:
1. Give you a new bottle with 20 pence off their original price.
2. Re-fill it on site for you, charging their normal price with a 20 pence discount.
If you can not return it to a bike shop, send your Green Oil bottle to us directly.
Either pay by cheque, or online by credit card or PayPal once it has arrived at Green Oil House.
Postage will be 91 pence, second class by Royal Mail.
Green Oil cover this cost. So, the cost of a re-fill is the full price (£5.20) minus the your cost of postage, and your wholesome 20 pence bottle deposit money:
£5.20 - (0.20 + 0.91) = £4.09
To pay by cheque:
Send the empty Green Oil bottle, a name, an address and a cheque for £4.09, payable to 'Green Oil UK Limited' to:
Green Oil House,
12 Rolvenden Gardens,
Bromley,
Kent,
BR1 2TN
To pay by PayPal or credit card:
Send the empty Green Oil bottle, your name, your address and your email address on a scrap piece of paper, to:
Green Oil House,
12 Rolvenden Gardens,
Bromley,
Kent,
BR1 2TN
It is important you send your address, and an email address.
Don't worry, we will not send you spam.
The postage cost to you for the empty bottle should be 91 pence by Royal Mail second class. If you send the bottle first class, or by another method of postage that costs more than 91 pence, like a messenger boy or by helicopter, obviously Green Oil UK won't pay.
We do however pay for normal second class postage.
(We're good like that)
